With a history as rich as Norfolk’s, it’s not surprising that the county boasts a wide range of museums covering different aspects of East Anglian heritage. Some, such as Norwich Castle Museum, also house exhibits from far across the world and impressive art collections. Museum of the Broads
A 20-minute drive from Hemsby, and located next door to our Boating Holiday marina in Stalham, is the Museum of the Broads. Dedicated to Norfolk’s ‘playground for all’, the museum’s displays give an overview of the Broads National Park and all the history it has to offer; from marshmen to thatching, boat building to preserved Broads boats, there’s plenty for the whole family to learn about. Plus, the museum also offers boat trips on board their Victorian steam boat, Falcon, and their electric boat, Marsh Harrier!

Norwich Castle Museum
Norwich Castle is not only an iconic historical presence in Norwich’s skyline; it is also home to a fascinating and educational museum and art gallery. As well as exploring the history of the medieval castle, the museum also houses collections of fine art, archaeological artefacts and natural history.

Time and Tide
Based in Great Yarmouth, just 7 miles south of Hemsby, is the Time and Tide museum. This converted Victorian herring curing works now shares the history of Great Yarmouth and explores its maritime and fishing heritage, complete with a replica Victorian ‘Row’ and fisherman’s home. Time and Tide is a fantastic way to educate the kids with a range of hands-on displays, games and puzzles, as well as other activities.

Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum
The Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum was founded by a group of local enthusiasts who established a society to record the history of aviation in the Eastern counties. In 1976, the associated museum was opened, and has continued to grow since. Open from April to October, Sundays through till Thursdays 10:00 – 17:00 and from November till March on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Sundays from 10:00 – 16:00, the museum is home to around 65 aircraft which are displayed both indoors and out, alongside artefacts, photography and some aviation archaeology exhibits. There is also a Flight Training area and memorials for visitors to explore.

Cromer Museum
Discover the famous West Runton mammoth, Britain’s oldest and most complete mammoth fossil or marvel at a the skull of a Mosasaur - a huge marine reptile common in the seas that covered Norfolk over 80 million years ago. You can also browse the Geology Gallery and see an amazing collection of fossils - all found in Norfolk.
