Best outdoor activities for kids in Norfolk

At Hemsby Beach Holiday Park, we have a great range of on-site activities that the kids can get involved with, from go-karting to swimming in our indoor pool. But if you fancy getting out and about in the county, here are some suggestions for fun outdoor activities in Norfolk that are sure to get the kids excited!

Whitlingham Adventure

In a picturesque location on the outskirts of Norwich, Whitlingham Country Park comprises 280 acres of countryside and two tranquil broads. Set within it is Whitlingham Adventure, a purpose-built activity centre offering a variety of youth programmes. From bushcraft and archery to canoeing and paddleboarding, Whitlingham Adventure is a great choice if you’re looking for an action-packed adventure for the kids.

Hunter's Yard - Home to Swallow and Amazon

Hunter’s Yard in Ludham is home to the famous boats Swallow, Amazon, Teasel and Titmouse from the much-loved 1980s films Swallows & Amazons, Coot Club and The Big Six. You can row Amazon on your visit or book a 2-hour skippered sail to see the Broads from a classic 1930s sailing boat. Hunter’s has a fleet of classic mahogany Broads yachts and a small museum. It is a working boatyard, but you are welcome to visit any time and see how the yard works. There are lawns overlooking the water which make a delightful spot for a picnic.

BeWILDerwood

A favourite for families with young children, BeWILDerwood is an award-winning outdoor forest adventure. Spend the day exploring the home of the Crocklebogs and Twiggles, playing in treehouses, zipping along ziplines and sliding down slides. It’s not just children who can get involved – parents and grandparents are encouraged to run wild and play alongside them!

Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens

Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens first opened in 1979, and is home to a wide variety of animals, from crocodiles and alligators in the swamp house to big cats such as tigers and clouded leopards. With lots of open space for the kids to run around in, including a large play area with 3D Adventure Maze, climbing frames, a slide and a pyramid climbing frame, you can even bring a picnic to enjoy on the lawn when hunger strikes!

Holkham Hall and Woodland Play Area

Based in the north Norfolk coastal village of Holkham, Holkham Hall is a beautiful 18th-century mansion built on a 25,000-acre estate. As well as exploring the house, parkland and gardens, kids can also have fun in the woodland play area, with its high-level bridges, treehouses, walkways, rope ladders and zip wires. There’s also a toddler area for the under 5s – and a well-positioned cafe so that parents can grab a cuppa!

Merrivale Model Village

Located on Great Yarmouth’s seafront, this outdoor, miniature world is perfect for the whole family to explore. With its award-winning Merrivale Gardens, model railway, old penny arcade, gift shop and tearoom, Merrivale Model Village is a classic seaside attraction. There’s even a 9-hole crazy golf course that you can play as part of the admission price!
